Fast Improving sprinter Brando wins a Group 3 for owner Angie Bailey at Sandown on 2nd July. Trainer Kevin Ryan reports he may head to the Nunthorpe next month. A great result for owners Angie and Pete as they lost their star sprinter Astaire due to illness and he is sorely missed. Hopefully this horse can continue on his upward curve and give them another big day out.
Ashadihan was an impressive winner of the Group 3 Chartwell Fillies stakes at Lingfield on 7th May, trained by Kevin Ryan. We purchased her for 48,000 gns at last year’s Guineas sale. Delighted for owner Mr Rahman. Kevin is now aiming her at the Irish 1000 Guineas.
Doug O’Neil has had a fabulous start to the season in Dubai and one of our purchases Charlie Croker, owned by Malhi Al Basti, was a nice winner at Meydan yesterday. He was purchased from Willie Browne’s Mocklershill Stables at Goresbridge Breeze Up Sale.

Duchess of Marmite the first purchase for fledgling trainer Richard Hughes, has won three races for him and was beaten a short head in a more competitive race at Dundalk recently. She looks to be improving all the time, with plenty to look forward to this season. Richard has had a great start, already having trained 11 winners to date, also including Bank of Gibraltar who we purchased.
Stephen Hillen Bloodstock purchased a total of nine horses this week at Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale some of which will go to trainers Kevin Ryan, Joseph Tuite and Richard Hughes. We were also pleased to buy some for Tony Bloom, although we tried hard to buy more for him and underbid a few including Rembrandt Van Rijn who made 400,000gns. Brian and Rosie Hargie were at the sales and we were delighted to buy Classic Villager for them who was one of our “naps”. Most of these horses are now at the The National Stud in Newmarket, as we recommend giving them a holiday, getting them turned out in the paddock every day.
Stephen Hillen Bloodstock have just finished a long few weeks purchasing at the yearling sales from Doncaster, Fairyhouse, Goffs, Tattersalls Newmarket and finally Arqana this week.
Purchasing was tough at times with record turnovers being recorded.
We bought yearlings for trainers Kevin Ryan, George Baker and Joseph Tuite and were also delighted to select some for Richard Hughes who has started training following his retirement as a jockey earlier in the year. Our purchases also included yearlings for owners Jim and Fitri Hay, Michael Tabor, Ahmad Al Shaikh, Henry Ponsonby Syndicate and Alison Jackson.
New stallions such as Sepoy, Sir Prancealot, Bated Breath, Nathaniel were on the roster of purchases as well as some proven performers such as Dark Angel, Dalakhani, Dutch Art and Pivotal.
